The dataset of object spectral was obtained in the Linze station foci experimental area from May 25 to Jul. 11, 2008. The measurement instrument is ASD Spectroradiometer (350～2 500 nm) from BNU and the reference board (40% before Jun. 15 and 20% hereafter). The selected typical objects included maize field, soil, soil with known moisture and desert scrub. The measured quadrates included Wulidun farmland quadrates (May 28 and 30, Jun. 16 and 29 and Jul. 11), the desert transit zone strips (May 28 and 30 and Jun. 16) and Linze station quadrates (May 23 and Jul. 9) Besides, soil samples were collected inside Linze station quadrates on Jun. 24 and 30, 2008. Raw spectral data were archived as binary files, which were recorded daily in detail, and pre-processed data on reflectance and transmittivity were archived as text files (.txt). 1 km land cover map of heihe river basin is ran youhua et al. (2009;2011) develop a subset of China's 1 km land cover map (MICLCover) incorporating multi-source local information.The MICLCover land cover map adopts the IGBP land cover classification system, based on the evidence theory, which integrates the 1:100,000 land use data of China in 2000, the vegetation pattern of China vegetation atlas (1:100,000), the 1:100,000 glacier distribution map of China, the 1:100,000 swamp wetland map of China and the land cover product of MODIS in 2001 (MOD12Q1).The verification results of MICLCover showed that the overall consistency of MICLCover and China's land use map reached 88.84% on the level of 7 categories. Among them, the consistency of cultivated land, city, wetland and water type reached more than 95%.Through visual comparison with the land cover data product of MODIS2001 and IGBPDISCover land cover map in three typical areas, MICLCover keeps the overall accuracy of China's land use map and increases the leaf attribute and leaf shape information of China's vegetation map, while reflecting more detailed local land cover details.Using the national forest resources survey data, the verification results in gansu, yunnan, zhejiang, heilongjiang and jilin provinces showed that the accuracy of forest types of MICLCover was significantly improved compared with that of MODIS land cover products.The forest type of MICLCover was verified with the forest resource survey data of qilian mountain national nature reserve administration of gansu province. The results showed that the accuracy of MICLCover forest type in this area was 82.94%. Anyhow, MICLCover land cover map while maintaining the overall precision of the Chinese land use data condition, supplement the vegetation map of China on vegetation types and vegetation season phase information, update the Chinese wetland figure, Chinese ice figure the latest information, the accuracy of China's land cover data is greatly improved, more general classification system, the data can provide higher precision for land surface process model of land cover information.

This dataset includes the retrieved soil moisture products from the airborne PLMR microwave radiometer on 30 June, 7 July, 10 July, 26 July and 2 August, 2012 (UTC+8), in the HiWATER artificial oasis eco-hydrology experimental area of Heihe river basin. The soil moisture (SM), vegetation water content (VWC) and surface roughness (Hr) are simultaneously retrieved based on six brightness temperatures at three incidence angles (7°, 21.5°, 38.5°) and with dual polarization (H and V), by using the Levenberg-Marquardt optimization algorithm. The spatial resolution of the soil moisture products is 700 m, which represent the ~5 cm surface soil moisture according to the L-band observation wavelength. This dataset is in the format of asc, and with UTM projection (47°N). The validation against the eco-hydrological wireless sensor network observations and artificial synchronized observation shows that the total accuracy of this dataset can achieve 0.05 cm^3/cm^3, and that of the products on 7 July and 10 July even less than 0.04 cm^3/cm^3. This dataset can be helpful for the land surface process/hydrological process simulation and data assimilation, surface flux estimation, artificial irrigation management and spatial scaling research.

The dataset of vegetation cover fraction observations was obtained by the self-made instrument and the camera at a height of 2.5m-3.5m above the ground in the Yingke oasis, Huazhaizi desert steppe and Biandukou foci experimental areas on May 20, 24, 25, 28 and 30, Jun. 11, 14, 15, 21, 23, 24, 27 and 30, and Jul. 2, 2008. Observations were carried out in Yingke oasis maize field, Yingke oasis wheat field, Huazhaizi desert No. 1 and 2 plots, the rape field, the barley field and grassland in Biandukou. A pole with known length was put in each photo to determine the size of the photo. GPS data was used for the location and the technology LAB was used to retieve the coverage of the green vegetation. Besides, surrounding environment was also recorded. The dataset included the primary collected vegetation images and retrieved fraction of vegetation coverage.

The product level is L1B, which has been calibrated by radiation and geometry. The ASTER Remote sensing data set of Heihe integrated remote sensing joint experiment was obtained from NASA's data website (https://wist.echo.nasa.gov/) through international cooperation.

The dataset of ground truth measurement synchronizing with the airborne WiDAS mission and Landsat TM was obtained in the Yingke oasis and Huazhaizi desert steppe foci experimental areas on Jul. 7, 2008. Observation items included: (1) the radiative temperature by the thermal camera (Institute of Remote Sensing Applications) of maize, wheat and the bare land of Yingke oasis maize field at a height of 1.2m above the ground. Optical photos of the scene were also taken. Raw data (read by ThermaCAM Researcher 2001) was archived in IMG format, and blackbody calibrated data and processed data were all archived as Excel files. (2) Maize albedo by the shortwave radiometer in Yingke oasis maize field. R =10H (R for FOV radius; H for the probe height). Data were archived in Excel format. (3) Reflectance spectra in Yingke oasis maize field by ASD FieldSpec (350-1603nm) from Institute of Remote Sensing Applications (CAS). The grey board and the black and white cloth were also used for calibration on the CCD camera. Raw data were binary files direct from ASD (by ViewSpecPro), and pre-processed data on reflectance were in Excel format. (4) the component temperature by the handheld radiometer in Yingke oasis maize field and Huazhaizi desert maize field. For maize, the component temperature included the vertical canopy temperature, the bare land temperature and the plastic film temperature; for the wheat, it included the vertical canopy temperature, the half height temperature, the lower part temperature and the bare land temperature. The data included raw data (in Word format), recorded data and the blackbody calibrated data (in Excel format). (5) the radiative temperature by the handheld radiometer (emissivity = 1.0) in Yingke oasis maize field (for the canopy mean temperature), Huazhaizi desert maize field (for the transect temperature), Zhangye airport (the black and white cloth for calibration) and Huazhaizi desert No. 2 plot (the diagonal radiative temperature and the radiative temperature of 30m*30m subplot). The component temperature was also measured. The data included raw data (in Word format), recorded data and the blackbody calibrated data (as Excel files). (6) The air temperature (°C) , the soy bean leaf temperature (°C) and the maize leaf temperature (°C) by SPAD (from Institute of Remote Sensing Applications (CAS)) in Yingke oasis maize field. Besides, spectrum, photosynthesis, fluorescence and chlorophyll were measured as well. (7) The leaf reflectance spectra ASD (serial number: 64831) and 50% grey board from Institute of Remote Sensing Applications (CAS). The spectral DN was changed into radiance based on the 50% grey board calibration data and calibration lamp data, which could further be transformed into Excel format. Moreover, the solar radiance=the reference board radiance/the reference reflectance. (8) The leaf fluorescence by ImagingPam from Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences. YII = (Fm'-F)/Fm' was applied for caculation, F indicating fluorescence before saturating flash light, Fm' the maximum fluorescence before saturating flash light, and YII the quantum yield of photosystem II. Data were archived in pim and could be read by ImagingPam, which can be downloaded from http://www.zealquest.com. (9) The leaf photosynthesis by LI-6400. (10) The radiative temperature by the automatic thermometer (FOV: 10°; emissivity: 0.95), observing straight downwards at intervals of 1s in Yingke oasis maize field and Huazhaizi desert maize field. Raw data, blackbody calibrated data and processed data were all archived in Excel format. (11) FPAR (Fraction of Photosynthetically Active Radiation) by SUNSACN and the digital camera in Yingke oasis maize field. FPAR= (canopyPAR－surface transmissionPAR－canopy reflection PAR+surface reflectionPAR) /canopy PAR; APAR=FPAR* canopy PAR. Data were archived in the table format of Word. (12) Atmospheric parameters near Daman Water Management office by CE318 (produced by CIMEL in France). The total optical depth, aerosol optical depth, Rayleigh scattering coefficient, column water vapor in 936 nm, particle size spectrum and phase function were then retrieved from these observations. The optical depth in 1020nm, 936nm, 870nm, 670nm and 440nm were all acquired by CE318. Those data include the raw data in k7 format and can be opened by ASTPWin. ReadMe.txt is attached for detail. Processed data (after retrieval of the raw data) in Excel format are on optical depth, Rayleigh scattering, aerosol optical depth, the horizontal visibility, the near surface air temperature, the solar azimuth, zenith, solar distance correlation factors, and air column mass number.

This dataset contains the automatic weather station (AWS) measurements from site No.3 in the flux observation matrix from 3 June to 18 September, 2012. The site (100.37634° E, 38.89053° N) was located in a cropland (maize surface) in Yingke irrigation district, which is near Zhangye, Gansu Province. The elevation is 1543.05 m. The installation heights and orientations of different sensors and measured quantities were as follows: air temperature and humidity (HMP155; 5 m, towards north), rain gauge (TR525; 10 m), wind speed (010C; 10 m, towards north), a four-component radiometer (NR01; 6 m, towards south), two infrared temperature sensors (SI-111; 6 m, vertically downward), soil temperature profile (AV-10T; 0, -0.02, -0.04 m), soil moisture profile (CS616; -0.02, -0.04 m), and soil heat flux (HFP01; 3 duplicates with one below the vegetation and the other between plants, 0.06 m). The observations included the following: air temperature and humidity (Ta_5 m and RH_5 m) (℃ and %, respectively), precipitation (rain, mm), wind speed (Ws_10 m, m/s), four-component radiation (DR, incoming shortwave radiation; UR, outgoing shortwave radiation; DLR_Cor, incoming longwave radiation; ULR_Cor, outgoing longwave radiation; Rn, net radiation; W/m^2), infrared temperature (IRT_1 and IR_2, ℃), soil heat flux (Gs_1, below the vegetation; Gs_2 and Gs_3, W/m^2), soil temperature profile (Ts_0 cm, Ts_2 cm, Ts_4 cm, ℃), soil moisture profile (Ms_2 cm, Ms_4 cm, %). The data processing and quality control steps were as follows. (1) The AWS data were averaged over intervals of 10 min; therefore, there were 144 records per day. The missing data were filled with -6999. (2) Data in duplicate records were rejected. (3) Unphysical data were rejected. (4) In this dataset, the time of 0:10 corresponds to the average data for the period between 0:00 and 0:10; the data were stored in *.xlsx format. (5) Finally, the naming convention was AWS+ site no. Zhanye Airport desert observation system can offer in situ calibration data for TASI, WiDAS and L band sensor used in aerospace experiment. Observation Site: This point is located in a large, homogeneous and flatten desert near by Zhangye Airport. The main vegetation type is Sparse and low shrub. The coordinates of this site: 38°4′41.30" N, 100°41′48.10" E. Observation Instrument: The observation system consists of two SI-111 infrared radiometers (Campbell, USA), one installed vertically downward to land surface, another face to south of zenith angle 35°. SI-111 sensor installed at 4.0 m height. Observation Time: This site operates from 10 June, 2012 to today. Observation data laagered by every 5 seconds uninterrupted. Output data contained sample data of every 5 seconds and mean data of 1 minute. Accessory data: Land surface infrared temperature (by SI-111), sky infrared temperature (by SI-111) can be obtained. Dataset is stored in *.dat file, which can be read by Microsoft excel or other text processing software (UltraEdit, et. al). Table heads meaning: TarT_Atm, Sky infrared temperature @ facing south of zenith angle 35° (℃); SBT_Atm, body temperature of SI-111 sensor (℃) measured sky; TarT_Sur, land surface infrared temperature @ 4.0 m height; SBT_Sur, body temperature of SI-111 sensor (℃) measured land surface. The dataset of surface roughness measurements was obtained in the reed plot A, the saline plots B and C of the Linze grassland foci experimental area on Jun. 7, 18 and 25, 2008. All the quadrates were divided into 4×4 subsites, with each one spanning a 120×120 m2 plot. With the roughness plate 110cm long and the measuring points distance 1cm, the samples were collected from south to north and from east to west, respectively. The coordinates of the sample would be got with the help of ArcView; and after geometric correction, surface height standard deviation (cm) and correlation length (cm) could be acquired based on the formula listed on pages 234-236, Microwave Remote Sensing, Vol. II. The original photos of each sampling point, surface height standard deviation (cm) and correlation length (cm) were included this dataset. The roughness data were initialized with the sample name, which was followed by the serial number, the name of the file, standard deviation and correlation length. Each .txt file is matched with one sample photo and standard deviation and correlation length represent the roughness. In addition, the length of 101 needles is also included for further checking.

The dataset of the truck-mounted dual polarized doppler radar observations (time-continuous 10-minute on the 250m×250m horizontal grid) was obtained in the arid region hydrology experiment area from May 20 to Jul. 5, 2008. The observation site (38.73°N, 100.45°E, 1668m) was typical of complex underlying surface and transit zone landscapes. The aim was to explore and retrieve precipitation type and intensity by radar in cold regions, with the precipitation particle drop size analyzer and ground intensive measurements occurring simultaneously, thus making it possible to produce a high resolution precipitation dataset. The 714XDP X-band dual-linear polarization Doppler weather radar was with a horizontal resolution of 150 m, an azimuth resolution of 1, VCP from 10-22 layers and the scanning cycle 10 minutes. ZH, ZDR and KDP could be acquired together. For more details, please refer to Readme file.

The dataset of ground truth measurements synchronizing with ASTER was obtained in the Linze station foci experimental area on May 28, 2008. Observation items included: (1) soil moisture (0-5cm) measured once by the cutting ring method at the corner points of the 40 subplots of the west-east desert transit zone strip once by cutting ring method in the corner points of nine subplots of the north-south desert transit zone, once by the cutting ring method and once by ML2X Soil Moisture Tachometer in the center points of nine subplots of the farmland. The preprocessed soil volumetric moisture data were archived as Excel files. (2) surface radiative temperature measured by the handheld infrared thermometer (5# and 6# from Cold and Arid Regions Environmental and Engineering Research Institute which were both calibrated) in 40 subplots of the west-east desert transit zone strip (repeated 14-30 times), and nine subplots of the north-south desert transit zone strip (repeated 12-30 times). Data were archived as Excel files. (3) BRDF of maize and desert scrub measured by ASD Spectroradiometer (350～2 500 nm) from BNU, the 40% reference board , two observation platforms of BNU make and one of Institute of Remote Sensing Applications make in Wulidun farmland quadrates and the desert transit zone strips. Raw spectral data were archived as binary files, which were recorded daily in detail, and pre-processed data on reflectance and transmittivity were archived as text files (.txt). (4) LAI measured by two methods in the the Wulidun farmland quadrates and Linze station quadrates. One is manual method. The LAI, plant height and the spacing of selected samples were measured by the ruler and the number of the sapmles in the quadrate were counted. Then the LAI can be calculated. The dataset of ground truth measurements synchronizing with the airborne WiDAS mission was obtained in No. 1, 2 and 3 quadrates of the A'rou foci experimental area on Jul. 7, 2008. The quadrates were divided into 4×4 subsites, with each one spanning a 30×30 m2 plot. Observation items included: (1) spectrum of stellera, whin and pasture by ASD FieldSpec (350～2 500 nm) from BNU, with 20% reference board. Raw data were binary files direct from ASD (by ViewSpecPro), which were recorded daily in detail, and pre-processed data on reflectance were in .txt format. (2) photosynthesis of stellera , whin and pasture by LI-6400. The data were archived in Excel format. (3) surface temperature by the handheld infrared thermometer. 25 corner points of each subsite were chosen and acquisition time, the soil temperature measured three times and the land cover types were archived. Six files were included, the stellera spectrum of diverse coverage, spectrum data for 60% and 65% coverage, stellera photos, photosynthesis, the infrared temperature synchronizing with the airplane, and WiDAS images (resolution: 1.25m, 7.5m and 10m).

The dataset of runoff measuring weir observations at the hydrological section was obtained in the Pailugou watershed foci experiment area during two full years from Oct. 2006 to Oct. 2008. The ice flow measurement and the container aet were used manually. The measurement was carried out every five days from Oct. 2006 to Apr. 2007, three times a day from May to Sep. 2007, every five days from Oct. 2007 to Apr. 2008, once a day from May to Sep. 2008, and every five days during Oct. 2008. Data were archived in Excel format.

The dataset focuses on the distribution of sampling plots and stripes in the Yingke oasis and Huazhaizi desert steppe foci experimental areas. (1) YKLZYMD-the maize field plot (180m×180m) at Yingke Weather Station It matches No. 10 flight route. Five subplots were selected, including three maize subplots and 2 wheat subplots. The maize subplots, labeled as YKLZYMD01, YKLZYMD02 and YKLZYMD03, were planted in different directions with a ridge sturctrue, which was composed of single row of maizes and bare soils. The distance of adjacent maize rows, as well as the width of bare soil was 0.5m . YKLZYMD05 (2.46m×1m, along the ridge) was located in the northwest of the plot and interplanted with wheat and soy bean. YKLZYMDD06 was exclusively wheat, and 10 rows (1.5m) vertical to the ridge and 1m along the ridge were measured. This is a key experimental area for canopy spectrum, component reflectance spectra, BRDF, albedo, the photosynthetic rate, FPAR, structural parameters, vegetation coverage, the radiative temperature, surface emissivity, atmospheric parameters and soil moisture. (2) YKXMD-Yingke wheat plot (180m×170m) It matches No. 11 flight route. Wheat and maize were interplanted. Three subplots with the same size (3.4m * 3.4m) were selected for the measurement of vegetaion structural parameters, BRDF, the radiative temperature, vegetation coverage and soil moisture. (3) HZZHMZYMD-Huazhaizi maize plot (240m×240m) It is located between No. 9 and No. 10 flight routes. The maize seed dominates, and wheat, alfalfa and tomatoes were planted. 4 maize subplots and one wheat subplot were chosen to collect the canopy temperature, spectrum, structural parameters and vegetation coverage. (4) HZZHMYD1-Huazhaizi desert No. 1 plot (240m×240m) It is located within No. 4 flight route. 3 subplots (30m×30m) were chosen for reflectance spectra, BRDF, vegetation coverage, emissivity, the radiative temperature, soil moisture, atmospheric parameters by sunphotometer CE318 and surface roughness. In cooperation with experiments in Huazhaizi desert plots and Yingke weather station, simultaneous airborne multiangular thermal infrared camera&CCD-ground observations, simultaneous airborne hyperspectral imager (OMIS)-ground observations, simultaneous OMIS/TM/ASTER/Hyperion/CHRIS/ASAR-ground observations were all accomplished. (5) HZZHMYD2-Huazhaizi desert No. 2 plot It matches No. 5 flight route. Three subplots (10m×10m) for coverage and the radiative temperature and one (30m×30m) for simultaneous temperature and spectrum were chosen. (6) HZZHMYD3-Huazhaizi desert No. 3 plot (30m×30m) It is an intensive plot without simultaneous airporne or spaceborne measurement. (7) DJCYMYD-the maize field at the resort It is an intensive plot (30m×30m) with the maize seeds, mainly for the measurement of radiative temperature and soil moisture. (8) DJCDMD-the barley field at the resort It is mainly for radiative temperature data. (9) DJCDBC-the calibration field at the resort It is located at the ICBC resort. The reflectance spectra of the basketball court, the pool and the vegetation were collected used for radiative calibration of CCD camera in visible and near infrared spectra range. The dataset also includes geographic infomation of each sample point.
