Basic datasets related to heat source on the Tibetan Plateau (1948-2020)

As a powerful heat source, the Tibetan Plateau (TP) affects the onset, advance and retreat of the Asian monsoon, and the interaction between the westerly belt and the monsoon belt. In order to study the variation of TP thermal effect and its influence on the surrounding climate, the basic data related to TP heat source are needed.

This data set is composed of monthly basic heat source data of the TP and its surrounding areas calculated from reanalysis data, and its horizontal range covers 40°E-180° and 20°S-80°N. The spatial resolution is 2.5 ° x2.5 °, and the datasets mainly included ERA5 and NCEP/NCAR reanalysis data.

File naming and required software

This dataset provides the monthly mean gridded data among 40°E-180°, 20°S-80°N, ranging from 1948-01 to 2020-12. The ERA5 data is from 1979-01 to 2020-12, and the NCEP/NCAR data is from 1948-01 to 2020-12. The horizontal resolution is 2.5 ° x2.5 °, and the data is stored in netCDF format.
Data file nomination: The file name is "VAR_Amon_XXX_ _YYYYMM1-YYYYMM2.nc", where VAR represents the variable name, XXX represents the data name, and YYYYMM1 and YYYYMM2 represent the start and end date of the data respectively. For example, Q1_ Amon_ ERA5_ 197901-2012.nc represents ERA5 heat source data from 1979-01 to 2020-12.
Data reading method: All netCDF files in this dataset can be read directly using Matlab, NCL, python and other languages.
